AS REPORTED in the Examiner last week, detectives involved in tackling so-called ‘Hanoi’ burglaries scored a major success.

Five people were arrested and more than £1m-worth of high-spec vehicles were recovered in Bradford.

The problem has been a noticeable issue in neighbourhoods on the fringes of Kirklees, with suspects thought to be coming into the area from Bradford, getting into houses and stealing the keys to cars – then taking the cars themselves.

This e-fit image is of a man suspected to have been involved in one such offence and we want your help in finding him.

The image has been released following a burglary at Healey Lane in Batley on July 7.

A VW Passat was stolen from a house at about 2.30pm.

As part of the investigation, officers would like to speak to this man about the incident.

He is described as tall and in his early to mid 20s. He has dark brown hair, dark eyes and was of average build.

Anyone who thinks they recognise the man, or anyone with information on the crime should contact Det Con Sally Dale at Dewsbury CID via 0845 6060606.

These type of offenders depend on people’s lax attitude to security.

If you adopt an ‘it won’t happen to me’ attitude, the chances are that you will leave yourself vulnerable.

But you can take steps to ensure that you are at minimum risk.

The main thing to do is to lock your windows and doors – then keep all keys hidden away and certainly not left in the vicinity of doors.

If you have a burglar alarm, use it – even when you go to bed.

If you have a garage, please park your car in it. Many people with garages use them for storage. Clear them out and use them for the purpose for which they were built. This will keep your cars out of the sight of prying eyes.

If you have to park your car in the driveway consider fitting substantial gates or security posts.

It goes without saying that burglary is a very intrusive, personal crime, involving strangers being in your house and stealing your hard-earned property.

Don’t let yourself become a victim.
