A BOGUS firefighter made up a sob story to con cash from two kind-hearted women.
The man targeted the women in two Huddersfield town centre car parks over the weekend, claiming he was a firefighter from Cardiff stranded in Huddersfield after his car had broken down.
He spoke to one woman in the Kingsgate car park on Saturday afternoon and she gave him £65. He pretended to tap his contact details into her mobile phone so she knew who he was, but he did not put any information in.
On Sunday afternoon he approached a woman in the Rook Street car park and told her the same tale.
She used her credit card to buy him a train ticket and he also tricked her into giving him her bank details.
Sgt Tim O'Sullivan, of Huddersfield police, said: "This man has preyed on the kindness of his victims.
"He could have tricked other people and they may only realise now that he is a conman. We would urge anyone else who has fallen victim to him to contact us."
The man was white, aged about 28, 5ft 10in, slim yet muscular, slightly tanned with mousy short brown hair and possibly freckles.
He spoke with a local accent.
