A FORMER independent candidate has been selected to fight a key marginal seat for the Conservatives.
Milnsbridge chartered surveyor David Hill will contest Colne Valley for the Tories at this year’s Kirklees Council elections.
The 64-year-old married father-of-one stood as an independent in Golcar last year, finishing fifth with 340 votes.
Mr Hill said yesterday that the Conservatives’ economic policy had convinced him to join the party six months ago.
“I’ve voted all ways in my life and I’m from a working-class background – my father was a bus driver,” he said.
“I’ve gathered a lot of information from different people throughout the country and the world and I’ve come to the view that the Conservatives will get us back on our feet.”
Mr Hill beat two other candidates last month to win the right to contest the seat for the Tories.
Lib Dem Clr David Ridgway will defend the three-way marginal in May.
