A former councillor is vying for a seat in Parliament.

Imtiaz Ameen has been selected by the Batley and Spen Conservative Association to be its 2015 general election candidate.

Mr Ameen, a solicitor, lives in Dewsbury and was a Kirklees councillor for the Dewsbury South Ward between 2003 and 2007 and he stood as the Conservative candidate in Blackburn in 2005.

He said: “It is a privilege to have been selected as the Candidate for Batley and Spen. I look forward to meeting as many people as possible between now and May.

“After having a Labour MP for 17 years it is now time for a change in Batley and Spen.

“There are a many challenges facing everyone in the area. The cuts proposed by Labour-run Kirklees will close down many of the services we have a right to expect for our Council Tax.

“Working with the local Conservative councillors I will challenge the threats to our local communities and make sure that we return to the days when Batley and Spen was constantly on the national agenda.”
