VISITORS to Oakwell Hall this weekend will be asked for their view on a large-scale sculpture planned for the country park.

On Sunday, people at the Birstall country park will be consulted on what they would like to see replace the current Oak Log Fall sculpture at the park’s Colliery Field.

Manchester-based artist Adrian Moakes has been commissioned to design the new sculpture and is in the process of holding creative workshops and consultations before producing a final design at the end of the year.

From noon to 2.30pm on Sunday in the End Barn, people will be able to view models, drawings and suggestions from previous consultations.

The finished creation is expected to be installed in April 2008.

The project has received £10,000 from Awards For All.

Oakwell Hall’s staff and friends group is working with arts agency Loca to co-ordinate it.

The consultation exercise is running alongside the museum’s family event, entitled Sacred on Location – an exhibition on the theme of faith in the visitor centre barn.

A life-size Mongolian yurt is the centrepiece of the exhibition and provides a space for visitors to go and contemplate what faith means to them.

The exhibition ends on Sunday with a craft and music session from noon to 4pm.
