SEVERAL shops suffered disruption yesterday afternoon after contractors cut through a power cable at the Ringway Centre retail park at Beck Road, Huddersfield.

The contractors, hired by the owners of the park, were carrying out improvement work to the car park outside the Aldi supermarket at around 2.45pm when they hit a cable, causing a loss of power to nearby retail stores.

B & M Stores had problems with its tills and Matalan had to cope with reduced lighting and a lack of power to some backroom areas.

A spokesman for electricity provider Northern Powergrid said last night that their engineers were working to repair the damage and full power was due to be reinstated by the end of the night.
