A CONTROVERSIAL plan to build five houses in a village is back in front of planners today.

Cooper Lawrence Homes wants to knock down a bungalow on Denby Lane in Upper Denby and to build five two-storey homes.

Fifty-four residents wrote to Kirklees Council complaining about the plan, saying the houses would be over-bearing and out of character with other homes in the area.

The council’s Heavy Woollen Planning Subcommittee refused the proposal earlier this month.

But the proposal must now be reconsidered because of a planning technicality.

The subcommittee will consider the application again this afternoon.

Clr Jim Dodds will again speak against the proposal at the meeting at Dewsbury Town Hall.

The Denby Dale Conservative said: “There is strong opinion against this in the village and residents will be out in force at the meeting.”
