A CONVICTED rapist is still on the run after dodging court three weeks ago.
Charles Ian Megson, 39, was tried and found guilty of rape in his absence at Leeds Crown Court on September 28.
He had absconded from a Dewsbury bail hostel the night before.
He has not yet been sentenced and an arrest warrant was issued on Thursday October 1.
West Yorkshire Police said they had failed to track him down despite receiving information from the public.
Detective Inspector Mark Gaunt, who is leading the search, added: I am very keen to trace this man and put him back before the courts.
“I would urge anyone with information who can help us to get in touch.”
Megson has family connections in the Wakefield area. It is thought he could have been sleeping rough or camping in woodland in the Shipley area.
Megson is white, with short, dark hair with grey flecks.
He is about 6ft tall and has various tattoos including on both of his upper arms.
He was last seen wearing a khaki waist-length jacket and blue jeans. He was carrying a green back pack.
