IT'S been three years since she bowed out of the professional tennis circuit, but blonde bombshell Anna Kournikova still commands attention on court.
Immaculately groomed in a white tennis dress with pale pink piping, a white hooded top and white cropped trousers, the 25-year-old Russian is watching a handful of pint-sized tennis players go through their paces at London's Westway Tennis Centre as part of the Ariel Tennis Ace contest.
Meanwhile, all eyes are on Anna. Camera crews are lined up for interviews, dads are surreptitiously taking out their camera phones and mums are pretending they're not gossiping about her.
But she takes it all in her stride, smiling for publicity photos and answering questions.
"I've been around media attention for so long, I don't know life any other way," she explains later, cradling a cup of coffee.
"It feels like I have been under the microscope since I was 15 - and England is always the country where I feel most under the microscope. Looking back, it must have been pretty tough, going through puberty in the media eye and stuff. But that's what comes with being an athlete and a public figure."
Anna began making headlines in international junior tennis when she was just 13. Two years later she had reached the fourth round of the US Open, only to be beaten by top seed Steffi Graf. Her tanned limbs and long blonde hair meant she soon became a popular pin-up.
Pursuing her tennis career left little room for the normal teenage hi-jinks, but Anna says she never thought she was missing out.
"I'm a very structured and disciplined person," she says coolly. "Sometimes I think, `Oh, I didn't do the party scene or go to college'.
"But I think it's good I didn't do it - I didn't make some of those mistakes," she says.
In any case, playing tennis more than filled the gaps.
"It's a very competitive one-on-one sport, you're responsible for yourself on court - though doubles is fun too," she smiles. "It's very active, it's fun to play outside and it's a good workout for the whole body."
She was always a tabloid favourite, but when chronic back problems forced her to retire from the professional circuit in 2003, interest in Anna's off-court activities intensified.
Rumours abound that she is secretly married to long-time boyfriend, popstar Enrique Iglesias. Are they true?
"No, I'm not married," she sighs, before reciting a tally of the marriages, children and break-ups she's supposed to have had.
"I've got five kids, I've been divorced six times... I don't know what the fascination is.
"We do keep a lot of things private. We kind of laugh at it - how can readers take it seriously? We don't give much information out, so I guess they have to come up with stuff."
But she readily admits to being "very happy" with the Latino heart throb, even praising his tennis skills.
"Enrique is pretty good at tennis - he used to play when he was little and he's very athletic. But no, we haven't played against each other."
Despite appearing in one of Enrique's pop videos, Anna says she's unlikely to compete with him in the music arena, claiming she can't sing a note. Acting is also an unlikely career move, she adds.
Nor is she a great shopper - "I get excited for the first half hour, then I get really bored."
The pair are based in Miami and Anna paints a very relaxed picture of their life together - watching basketball games, hanging out with friends and going to the movies.
"Most of my friends are older than me, some are married and have kids. It's not a club scene," she laughs. "I'm too old for that now."
She's certainly not too old to return to professional tennis - and she's well-used to questions about a comeback.
"I definitely miss being in front of the fans, being on court, the attention, all those things," she admits.
"But for me to come back, I would have to be mentally and physically ready. I don't want to close that door. Once I do decide to return I will make an announcement," she smiles.
