Her job has seen her marry hundreds of people - and some of them have been our favourite TV characters.

Cathryn Riley is Kirklees Council’s deputy registrar but has also officiated at three Coronation Street weddings recently.

And while Cathryn, 49, is keeping tight-lipped about one Corrie wedding yet to be aired, she spoke of the fun of officiating at the wedding that never was for characters Tracy and Rob, plus the union of Beth and Kirk.

She said: “The first Coronation Street wedding I did was Rob and Tracy’s, which meant two days filming at a beautiful hotel.

“I obviously knew that I didn’t marry them, although I couldn’t tell anyone, but I didn’t know how the story went on.

“Then Kirk and Beth’s wedding was great fun, it was an 80s themed wedding and everyone looked amazing.

“They did get married and it was a great day filming, especially with the theme.

“I wasn’t in fancy dress for the show, but we have had themed weddings in Kirklees, including a lovely Gothic wedding at Oakwell Hall, so I’d get into a theme if I was asked for TV or for real.”

Cathryn, of Mirfield and mother of Jack and Katie-Faye, has recently filmed a third Coronation Street wedding, but won’t spoil it by saying for who or what happens.

She did say: “All the cast and crew are lovely. The actors are easy to talk to and everyone was surprised that I really am a registrar.”

Cathryn has been an extra for TV and adverts for 17 years, having studied English and Drama at Hull University. She is a member of Halifax Light Opera Society and has appeared on stage in Huddersfield.

She opted out of a professional acting career for a stable job, but films in her spare time.

She has appeared in Emmerdale and TV series The Royal, where she was a nurse for six years.

It was during an audition at Coronation Street that she talked about her job as a Kirklees Council registrar, and the next she heard from them she was called to feature at Rob and Tracy’s wedding.

She also appears in Channel 4’s Cucumber where ironically she was in front of the altar as a bride, and appears alongside former Coronation Street actress Julie Hesmondhalgh.

Cathryn, of course, officiates at weddings in Kirklees and has married well over 100 couples.

She added: “Filming is great fun, it gives me a taste of what TV life is like. But I do love my registrar job, it feels a privilege to be part of what is someone’s biggest day.”
