IT was a star-studded Saturday.

Coronation Street fans met Alan Halsall – better known as the hapless mechanic Tyrone Dobbs – along with his real-life wife Lucy-Jo Hudson, who played Katy Harris in the hit soap.

Meanwhile shoppers hitting the town’s shops couldn’t help but notice loud-mouthed Mimi Maguire from Shameless – aka Tina Malone.

The Shameless actress opened a new Poundland store on Victoria Lane and gave out £1 vouchers to passers-by.

And fans queued outside waiting to get her autograph.

Sarah Bruce, 19, from Denby Dale, said: “It’s brilliant that she’s in Huddersfield and I’m definitely going to try and get her autograph.

“I watch Shameless all the time and I think it’s brilliant – she’s one of the best characters in the whole show.”

Corrie celebs Alan and Lucy-Jo visited Greenacres care home in Meltham where they sat down to a ‘Roy’s Rolls’ brunch with the homes’ residents.

The residents and staff had converted the lounge into a ‘Roy’s Rolls’ café especially for the visit.

The duo tucked into delights like those served up in the ITV soap’s café including assorted breakfast rolls, teas, coffees and pastries.

Mark Greaves, managing director of Ideal Care Homes which owns the Meltham home, said: “It was great and it was really nice that Alan and Lucy-Jo spent a lot of time chatting to the residents here and signing autographs.

“We have lots of Corrie fans here and they made a lot of effort converting the lounge into Roy’s Rolls café – it was great.

“They both tucked in, but Alan couldn’t eat as much because he’s a vegetarian in real life and just eats a lot of cheese sandwiches.”

The star said: “Lucy-Jo and I were delighted to visit residents at Greenacres. It provides a valuable service to the local community, so it was an absolute pleasure for us to be part of it and to meet the residents and staff who work there.”

Greenacres care home has 31 beds for general purpose residential care and a further 33 specialist beds for those with dementia.

It boasts en-suite bathrooms, landscaped sensory gardens and a hairdressing salon.
