SOAP star Andrew Whyment is more used to cutting the ribbon at community events.

But Andrew – who plays Kirk Sutherland in Coronation Street – was at Overgate Hospice at the weekend to tie a ribbon.

The actor was taking part in the hospice’s Rainbow of Ribbons event.

Everyone in the community was invited to dedicate a ribbon to someone special who had added colour to their lives.

The ribbons were then tied around the trees and shrubs at the Elland hospice to create a colourful display in the gardens.

And visitors were given the chance for a period of quiet reflection with a cup of tea on the special day of commemoration.

Hospice staff hope to raise £10,000 from the ribbons event so they can continue to care for people in the community.

Fundraiser Lauren Ingram said: “We were really delighted that Andrew and his family wanted to support our event.

“This is the fourth year the hospice have organised this wonderful day, which gives everyone the chance to dedicate a ribbon to someone special.

“We feel privileged that Andrew and people in the community continue to support Overgate Hospice”.
