FOR David and Pam Reast their Longwood home is a real star.

So when television producers came knocking on their door eager to feature it in a popular daytime show they jumped at the chance to let viewers see just how great it was too.

The couple’s Thornhill Road home will be shown in BBC1’s property search show To Buy or Not To Buy next month.

The show sees presenters picking three properties for couples looking for their next home to view.

After exploring the homes they pick one of them to ‘test drive’ before deciding if they are going to put in an offer.

David and Pam’s three-storey Victorian cottage was one of the three Huddersfield homes that producers chose for a couple to view and the BBC crew spent two days in the town filming.

The couple found themselves caught up in the excitement of filming as camera crews and an entourage of the show’s production staff descended on their home for the day.

David says: “It was really good fun having them in our home for the day.

“We’d watched the show before and enjoyed it, so it was great having them actually use our home. They were there filming for about four hours.

“It was quite a secretive process. We had a quick chat with the producer and the director and showed them

where everything was.

“Then, as we couldn’t be there while they were filming, we had to disappear to the pub for a few hours!”

During the show presenters Ed Hall and Jonny Benarr are seen chatting about the house while the couple look round.

David said:“We’ve got a really nice balcony area which has got some great views across the countryside that they had planned to sit out on and talk about the house.

“But unfortunately it was raining so they had to sit in the car instead!

“We’ve also got a great games room that the presenters clearly enjoyed and they played pool in it.”

Unfortunately the couple didn’t choose David and Pam’s home as the property they wanted to explore further.

But David says he and his wife hope that having their home on the programme will help show other househunters how great their home is and hopefully lead to that all-important offer.

He said: “It’s got some fantastic features. It was built in 1877 and has got three levels, with the big balcony on the front.

“Everyone who has seen the house, including the producers of the show, have been impressed by it because it’s got so much character.

“The fact we were picked to go on the show made us feel quite good about our home.’’

The cottage has been the couple’s home for 15 years, but they have made the tough decision to sell it because they are keen to start a new life on Spain’s Costa Blanca.

“We’ve loved living in our home and we’re sorry to leave it, but we want a new adventure in Spain,” said David.

“We’re looking for a change of lifestyle and our aim is to buy a small house and live really simply.”

The couple are going to find it hard to leave their home, which with over 130 years of history to it is full of character.

David says: “My wife actually bought the house before I met her. It was in a real state and she put a lot of work into it to turn it into the great home that it is today.

“I met her as she had finished the process, but I have had some input into some changes that have been made since.”

The couple’s home is a real party house and their fantastic games room is the hub where all the entertainment happens when guests come over.

David says: “Unsurprisingly, the games room was my idea and it’s got everything in there, a pool table, roulette wheel and a drinks fridge.’’

The couple also love spending time on their fantastic balcony, which is a real feature. Some fantastic views of the sprawling countryside can be seen from there and the couple love nothing more than relaxing out there after a hard day’s work.

The stone-built property, originally a mill worker’s cottage, has lots of original features, including the high skirting boards and ceiling roses.

Quite traditional furnishings have been teamed with a classic colour scheme to reflect the property’s age and sense of character.

The couple are looking forward to their Spanish adventure, but says David they will really miss the house.

He adds: “The house has got a lovely feel to it and it’s just so different. I’ve never seen another house quite like it.

“It’s got some lovely features and when you’ve been out working hard all day it’s a nice place to come back to and relax. It’s the perfect home really and in terms of its location it’s like living in another world.

“We’ll be sorry to let it go, but it’s time for a change.’’
