MEMBERS of the public are being invited to inspect Kirklees Council's accounts for 2005-2006 when they become available on July 3.

Everyone has the right to inspect the council's accounts and local electors can also ask questions about them or challenge them.

Clr David Hall, the council's Cabinet member for finance, said: "It is a legal requirement that the council's full accounts be available to the public - and it is a weighty document.

"However, a simpler summary of the council's finances will be published in our autumn Community News distributed to all households."

The accounts will be available for inspection between Monday July 3 and Friday July 28 at Kirklees Information Points at Civic Centre I, High Street, Huddersfield, and in Dewsbury Town Hall.

They can be viewed between 9am and 4pm from Monday to Friday.

The accounts will also be posted on the council's website from July 3 at: www.kirklees.gov.uk/you-kmc/kmcbudget/accounts.shtml

A copy of the full statement of accounts can be obtained from the Director of Finance, Kirklees Strategic Finance Service, PO Box 243, Civic Centre I, Huddersfield HD1 2YU at a cost of £10 (including postage).
