EXTENSIVE improvements are being made to a popular community centre.

Shelley Village Hall is being given a make-over this summer to improve facilities for residents.

Kirkburton Parish Council, which owns the hall, is spending £13,000 on improving its rear entrance.

It comes after the council recently spent £1,000 on repairs.

Parish council chairman Clr Geof Hickey said: “In recent years many improvements have been put in place there and it is now a fine venue supporting many community activities.

“This summer more work is planned in the form of a major contract to upgrade the rear entrance of the building.

“We have agreed to improve the front entrance later and will be undertaking several other jobs in the future.”

The village hall is used by a host of community groups throughout the week, including the Shelley Over-60s Club, dancing groups, Scouts and a popular amateur dramatic society.
