TOWN hall chiefs are changing the way they give cash support for local citizens' advice bureaux.

It's a move which will strengthen working relationships, says Kirklees Council.

The council Cabinet will switch from an annual grant to a contract which will guarantee more consistent funding.

Cabinet member Clr Ann Raistrick said: "The two citizens' advice bureaux in Kirklees, and other advice agencies, are very important partners in terms of supporting local people in difficulties, and in need of support and advice.

"Moving away from a grant-based system to a contract mechanism will guarantee them year on year funding based on fulfilling the terms of the agreed contract."

She added: "The work of the citizens' advice bureaux is very much valued by the council and by those people who receive the support.

"The strengthened relationship through the contract method will ensure that they continue to play an important role, and have a more secure financial base."
