KIRKLEES Council has now received the national award it received for publicity about its recycling scheme.

The Environmental Projects Team bagged the prize for the best information and communication campaign related to recycling at the National Recycling Awards.

Pictured with the award are recycling officer Alison Rowe (front left) and Clr Ann Denham, who has an environment role on Kirklees Council's cabinet.

Judges praised the team for their efforts to encourage people to recycle.

They described the campaign as "a strong, positive message with easy to understand material".

In the year to April, Kirklees was recycling about 16% of household waste.

The government has a 25% target nationally next year.

Clr Ann Denham, cabinet member for the environment, said:

"The award has shown that we stand out among the very best of the recycling industry."

The annual awards are open to any organisation, community group or company that is involved in recycling.
