LAND sales are helping finance improvements to council buildings.
Calderdale Council announced yesterday that £20m has been raised in the last six years by selling off surplus property.
The money has paid for upgrades to council buildings including Brighouse Art Gallery and the household waste sites in Brighouse and Elland.
Calderdale Cabinet member for regeneration Clr Amanda Byrne said: “I understand how emotive some disposals are for residents but the money raised is used to fund many of the council’s redevelopments and new-build schemes.
“Calderdale Council undertakes extensive consultation, far wider than other councils.”
