FOOTBALL fans ought to be able to enjoy next year’s World Cup on a huge screen, according to a councillor.

Clr Khizar Iqbal wants Kirklees Council to erect a £40,000 screen outside Dewsbury Town Hall in time for next summer’s tournament. The Dewsbury South Independent said: “Everyone is excited about the prospects for England in the World Cup and, like many other towns and cities, I think it would great for Dewsbury to have a big screen to boost support for the town’s traders and for the national team.

“The money can be found within the budget earmarked for Dewsbury Town Hall restoration.

“When you consider that the council is about to invest hundreds of millions of pounds into Huddersfield, funding of a big screen in Dewsbury will show a real commitment to the town.

“I will be writing to all the leaders of the political groups to ask for their support.”
