TWO councillors will today call for ambulances to be allowed to travel in bus lanes giving them the same status as taxis.

Clrs Edgar Holroyd-Doveton and Terry Lyons will submit the motion at today’s full meeting of Kirklees Council.

It calls for the status of ambulances run by the Patient Transportation Service to be upgraded and says the council should encourage other authorities in West Yorkshire to develop similar schemes.

Buses and taxis are permitted in the bus lanes, such as those in Wakefield Road and Bradford Road.
