COUNCILLORS are to look at providing CCTV security cameras in Cleckheaton and Heckmondwike town centres.
Kirklees Council's Spen Valley Area Committee has backed plans to commission a full feasibility study of the proposal.
Clr David Sheard, chairman of the committee, said all councillors for the three wards covered by the committee - Spen, Heckmondwike and Cleckheaton were behind the plan.
He said: "It's not simply a case of putting up cameras and that's it.
"This has to be properly studied and thought through.
"CCTV cameras are clearly very effective in tackling crime, anti-social behaviour and making people feel safer in using town centres, but they are not in themselves the answer to all town centre issues.
"The area committee wants to consider a whole range of issues including cost, location, monitoring, co-ordination and associated town centre management issues.
"CCTV cameras need to be examined as part of town centre issues as a whole and not looked at in isolation," added Clr Sheard.
