CONCERNS about traffic have led ten people to object to industrial development in Brighouse.

Calderdale councillors will now have to decide if Brighouse Patent Walling Systems can build a new industrial building off Elland Road.

They’re also seeking office space and an external facade for an existing open-sided store on land adjacent to the Vine Industrial Estate.

The site is currently undeveloped with access off Elland Road, north of Bapp Industrial Supplies.

Objectors say the proposed entrance is one of Calderdale’s busiest trunk roads with heavy goods vehicles travelling between the Lowfields Business Park and the M62.

They believe adding further industry will increase risks at an “already dangerous junction”.

They also say it’s part of a designated wildlife conservation area and owls, jays, woodpeckers and bats have been seen regularly.

Four people have written in support of the application.

They say the development will provide work, clear up a derelict land and an eyesore visible from Southowram and it’s in keeping with surrounding industry.

Council planners recommend it for approval. Councillors will decide the application at 3pm on Tuesday at Halifax Town Hall.
