Councillors ignored officers advice to permit a wind turbine in Meltham.

Jillian Alegaliy secured consent for a 34.5m base to tip wind turbine at Moortop Farm, Slaithwaite Road, Meltham, which is in the greenbelt.

Objections had been raised by the Peak District National Park, while Kirklees planners advised the application be refused due to the ‘detrimental’ impact on the openness of the greenbelt and landscape, in particular the neighbouring national park.

But Clr Andrew Cooper moved it be approved, saying visual amenity is subjective and no-one had attended the planning meeting to oppose it.

The vote to approve was won seven votes to six against.
