KIRKLEES Council has won a gold award in a national competition for its A-Z of council services.

The annual booklet delivered to every household in the district is packed full of useful telephone numbers, addresses, e-mail addresses and website links.

This year it was more than twice the size of previous editions.

It was re-designed to include more information, to be easier to use and look more attractive.

The gold LG Communications Award was for the local authority that provided the best example of an effective guide to council services.

Marketing officer David Ebden was presented with the award by Oona Muirhead, director of strategy at the Local Government Association in a ceremony at The Lowry, Salford Quays, Manchester.
