PEOPLE in rural areas are to be given green bins for the first time.

The Cabinet voted to make it easier for people in isolated areas to recycle.

Some 10,500 homes in rural areas now have black bags for unsorted waste and no recycling collection.

But this month 80% of these properties will receive grey bins for general waste and green bins for recycling waste, including paper, cardboard and tin.

The remaining 20% of houses, which are unsuitable for wheeled bin collections because of their isolated locations, will instead receive green bin liners and green dustbins.
