KIND-HEARTED Almondbury couple Arthur and Patricia Henshaw have raised more than £1,000 for charity from their golden wedding celebrations.

The couple, both 74, asked friends and family to donate money to the Kirkwood Hospice instead of buying them presents for their 50th wedding anniversary.

And they raised £1,047 from their celebration at the St Patrick's Centre.

Family and friends travelled to the event from Huddersfield, Ireland and the USA.

Mr and Mrs Henshaw are pictured presenting the money to hospice fundraiser Kate Leadbeater.

The couple come from Dublin and were married on August 4 1954.

They arrived in Huddersfield two years later.

The couple renewed their vows at a mass at St Brigid's Church in Paddock on August 4 this year.

Mrs Henshaw's sisters, Georgina and Margaret, once again took on the roles of bridesmaids that they had at the wedding 50 years ago.

Mr Henshaw's brother Jimmy was also best man for the second time.

The couple extended thanks to family, friends and Dewsbury firm Sewtec for their donations and Father Smith at St Brigid's Church for the service he conducted.
