A Honley couple fled their home after a circuit board caught fire.

The man and a woman, believed to be in their 60s, were awoken at 3.30am in their house on Hassocks Lane this morning by smoke alarms.

They found flames coming out of their main electrical circuit board, which was in a self-contained cupboard on the ground floor.

Two fire engines from Huddersfield attended the scene and crews spent one hour tackling the blaze.

The couple suffered no injuries and were praised by watch commander Stephen Bates for their quick thinking.

“On their way out, they shut all the doors”, he said.

“This prevented the fire from spreading to other rooms.

“As a result, only the circuit room cupboard suffered severe smoke damage.”
