A HUDDERSFIELD couple have just celebrated their golden wedding.

Patricia and Donald Smith, of Crosland Moor, were married at Golcar Providence Methodist Church.

The couple met in 1956 at a dance evening at Lockwood Mechanics Hall organised by their employers, Brook Motors.

Mr Smith, 73, went on to work as a rear axle sub-assembler for David Brown Tractors in Meltham from 1973 to 1988. He spent the following 10 years at Wellington Mills in Oakes.

He also did National Service in the Suez Canal Zone from 1953.

His wife, who is 72, was a cashier and supervisor at Colne Valley Supermarket in Cowlersley. She is also a deacon at Milnsbridge Baptist Church.

The couple have four children and six grandchildren. They celebrated their anniversary with family and friends at Milnsbridge Baptist Church.

The couple plan to go on a seven-day cruise to Copenhagen next month.
