A NEW Mill couple have celebrated their golden wedding.

George and Frieda Weaver were married at Keighley Parish Church. Mr Weaver was from Thurstonland and Mrs Weaver was from Keighley.

They had met in 1951 at a Keighley polling station, where Mr Weaver was on duty as a police constable.

After the wedding, Mr Weaver joined the Prison Service and was transferred to Wandsworth Prison in London.

The couple lived in London until they had children, then moved to New Mill.

Mrs Weaver is a member of New Mill Church and the Young Wives and Mothers' Union. She was also stewardess of Brockholes Bowling Club for 10 years.

Mr Weaver is still a member at the club and plays in several leagues. He also plays crown green bowling.

The couple have seven grandchildren.
