A COUPLE confronted burglars raiding their Lowerhouses home.

They were woken by noises downstairs at the house on Fanny Moor Crescent at 3.40am on Monday.

They went to investigate and spotted three youths fleeing out of the back door.

They had stolen a white wallet with a number 3 on it, cash, a mobile phone, 16 DVDs and a red England soccer shirt.

One is a chubby mixed race boy aged about 16 and only 5ft 3ins tall.

The second is a skinny white boy in his mid teens with light-coloured crewcut hair, who wore a light-coloured patterned jumper.

There is no description of the third youth.

Lowerhouses is at the centre of a police crackdown using new powers under the 2003 Anti- Social Behaviour Act.

It has given police extra powers to move on unruly youths.
