A MUM has blasted a furniture company for leaving her living out of a box.

Bradley woman Sarah Thornton has nowhere to put her clothes after the firm failed to supply the wardrobe she ordered.

They haven’t returned her deposit, either.

She said: “I’m living out of boxes at the moment because I can’t afford to order more furniture until I get my money back.”

Sarah and husband Wayne ordered a cupboard, wardrobe and corner unit for their bedroom from Nationwide Kitchens and Bedrooms on Beck Road.

After the couple put down a £500 deposit for the £2,000 order the company told them to expect delivery on April 3.

Mum-of-three Sarah said: “They told us to throw out our old furniture so the new stuff could be fitted, but it never came. When I phoned Nationwide they said the furniture-making machine was broken so we would have to wait three weeks.”

On May 4 the company told Sarah that the machine had been fixed but there would be a six-week backlog.

By early June there was still no sign of the furniture so Wayne went to Beck Road to complain. Sarah said: “He was told that Nationwide were no longer dealing with the company which makes the furniture and were looking for a new supplier. Wayne told them we wanted our money back but they said we had to make that request in writing.

“We sent them a letter but it’s now July and we still don’t have our deposit back.”

Sarah is not impressed with the company. She said: “Their customer service has been appalling. It’s been excuse after excuse.”

Nationwide spokesman Robin Harrison said there was a problem with the finance agreement.

He said: “It appears the Thorntons haven’t cancelled their finance agreement with GE Money. Once they’ve done so we will be able to give them their money back.”

But Sarah said: “We have a finance agreement with GE Money for the remaining £1,500, not for the deposit. I gave Nationwide a cheque for £500 of my own money and they cashed it. I don’t see why I can’t get this money back.”
