TWO councillors caught up in a court case have won seats on Kirkburton Parish Council.

Mark Sykes, pictured, was in court earlier this week, and was convicted of assaulting fellow councillor Michelle Atkinson.

The pair had been having an affair.

Now both have retained their seats after Thursday’s election.

Clr Atkinson (Green) topped the poll with 576 votes in the Shepley ward, after standing down last October.

Clr Sykes (Conservative) received 452 votes in the same ward.
