A SOCIAL club at the centre of an ‘ownership’ battle could have its fate decided by a court next week.
Two opposing groups are debating the future control of Brighouse-based Blakeborough Social and Sports Club.
And next Friday, March 19, the case will go before Halifax County Court.
One side say they will be applying to have the Halifax Road bowling club split from its associated Bradford Road social club after fearing the bowling club site could be sold-off.
Now Andy Taylor, who sits on the committee at the social club’s HQ on Bradford Road, said: “We said it would be put up for sale and since then we’ve had all these problems.
“They [the bowling club members] made us an offer which was only a third of what it was worth.
“We’ve got to keep the main club going and if we decided to sell it [the bowling club site] to save the club then that’s an option we will look at.”
It’s thought the bowling club members offered around £60,000 for the site, which could be worth up to £250,000.
The club, which has been running for 25 years and owns the Brighouse Town Football Club site and the Halifax Road bowling green site, has seen an internal split over the last few years.
There is also an ongoing police investigation into the club’s accounts.
A ballot to decide its committee will take place at the club on Sunday, March 14.
A previous court hearing resulted in any plans to sell the bowling club to be frozen until the dispute had been resolved.
