A Brighouse man who was involved in small-scale drug dealing has been given a 10-month suspended prison sentence.

A court heard today (Thurs) that police officers searching Scott Jones’ home in Albion Street five months ago found various drugs, including Ecstasy, cannabis and ketamine, as well as £350 in cash.

Prosecutor Stephanie Hancock told Bradford Crown Court that officers also recovered a list of names and numbers which she described as a dealer’s debt list.

During the police inquiry the officers also seized a mobile phone which Miss Hancock said contained text messages indicating that 27-year-old Jones had been supplying both cannabis and ketamine for a few months between December and February.

“It is clear through the text messages that he would supply fairly small amounts and also provide drugs on tick,” said Miss Hancock.

Jones pleaded guilty to charges of supplying drugs and possessing drugs and as part of his sentence he was ordered to forfeit the £350 cash.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC was told that Jones was now voluntarily seeking help with his own drug habit and he described the defendant as a hard-working man who had ended up supplying drugs when he was laid off from his job.

The judge told Jones that the 10-month sentence, suspended for a year, was a “one-off chance” and he also ordered him to do 100 hours unpaid work for the community.

Jones must also comply with a drug rehabilitation requirement and an activity programme as well as abide by an electronically-monitored night-time curfew for the next three months.
