A 33-YEAR-OLD man could be jailed next month after he admitted slapping a disabled man as he sat in his wheelchair.

A court heard yesterday that the complainant Richard Keegan had called Darren McGillvary a thief during an exchange near his home in February.

McGillvary, of Lees Close, Dalton, hit Mr Keegan on the left side of his face knocking him out of his wheelchair and onto the ground, Bradford Crown Court heard.

McGillvary was due to be sentenced yesterday, but Judge Alastair McCallum adjourned the hearing until October 22 so that further information could be obtained about the extent of Mr Keegan’s injury.

The defendant has admitted a charge of wounding and in a victim personal statement made earlier this month Mr Keegan indicated that he now needed to have his jaw “'pinned”.

The judge said he needed to know the precise nature of the injury before passing sentence on McGillvary.

He granted the defendant bail until next month.
