A MAN has been prosecuted for playing loud music.
Craig Jenkinson, now resident in Milnsbridge, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Huddersfield magistrates.
But he was found guilty of two contraventions of Section 80 Noise Abatement Notices when playing very loud music last December at his former home at Teddington Avenue, Dalton.
The court heard that Jenkinson had stereo equipment seized on two previous occasions and he had signed a formal caution.
He was given a 12-month conditional discharge, faces £100 in costs and had to forfeit his hi-fi equipment once again.
Commenting on the case, Clr David Hall, Kirklees Cabinet member for Pollution and Noise Control, said: “The offender was lucky in this instance, as offences under the Environmental Protection Act can attract a fine of up to £5,000. Removing and confiscating the hi-fi equipment will hopefully prevent the re-occurrence of the noise problem for neighbours.
“Environmental Services officers will do their best to work with residents to settle noise disputes amicably. However, we will prosecute if people will not co-operate.”
