A 23-YEAR-OLD man who joined in an attack on a teenage girl at a Huddersfield nightclub has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Ahmed Rashid hit Rebecca Senior, 18, as she struggled with his girlfriend Nicole Collins in the toilets of Tokyo nightspot in November.

Bradford Crown Court heard how Rashid hit Miss Senior on the back as Collins slapped and pulled her hair.

The incident left Miss Senior with bruising around both eyes and scratches to her face.

Rashid, of Sandene Avenue, Crosland Moor, and Collins, 22, of Whiteacre Close, Deighton, both admitted a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm when their case was listed for a trial last month.

He has previous convictions for offences involving women, as well as robbery.

Recorder Simon Hirst said he was just persuaded to suspend a prison sentence for the latest incident but said he was concerned about his previous offending against women and warned Rashid that if he didn’t take this chance he would go to prison for nine months with something on top for any other offence.

Rashid’s nine-month prison term was suspended for two years and he was told he must also do 200 hours unpaid work for the community.

He will also have to take part in a thinking skills programme.

Collins, who had no previous convictions, was given a 12-month community order which includes a 7pm to 7am curfew at her home for five nights a week over the next two months.
