AN ELDERLY man was charged more than £2,000 by cowboy workmen for a £50 guttering repair job.
The 81-year-old handed over the cash last Wednesday after two men offered to clean his gutters and paint his lead flashing.
The incident happened on Crosland Road, Oakes.
Police revealed details of the crime last night.
Both men were white, in their 20s, and believed to have been in a red van.
