THE family of Gurmail Singh joined a tribute to him just a few hundred yards from the spot where he met his death.

They joined hundreds of people from all backgrounds and faiths in a moving memorial service at St Hilda’s Church, Cowcliffe.

The Vicar, Canon David Ward, led a short service in a church that was packed to the rafters.

Mr Singh’s family were joined by members of the tightly-knit Cowcliffe community and others from across Huddersfield.

Canon Ward said: “It is good to see the community come together for a man who made such an impression”.

Clr Mehboob Khan said: “The response came from every part of the community who have suffered so much over the last fortnight. They were united over a kind and generous man who was a cornerstone of the Cowcliffe community.

“He went out of his way to help so many people and he was irreplaceable. Again, Huddersfield has united in its own unique way of dealing with tragedy”.
