AN AUTHOR has had his debut novel published.

Neil Frankland, 32, of Cowlersley, was delighted to see his hard work in print.

The father-of-two began writing fast-paced thriller, Daruma’s Secret back in 2005.

He said: “I had lost a job and I was feeling pretty low and I got to the point where I thought I should do something for myself.”

The former hotel manager finished the book in 2007 and sent it off to some publishers.

He was shocked to get a letter back from an agent saying he was interested in printing the book.

Neil is a member of the Colne Valley Black Belt Academy and his novel is centred around Karate.

He said the book isn’t complicated and those who don’t know anything about Karate will be interested in the story.

The story is set in the ‘Helme Valley’ – a fictional village based on the Holme Valley.

Neil lives with his wife Sarah and his two sons Oliver, two, and Jack, one.
