A RAPE allegation has been dropped against three young Calderdale boys.

The youngsters were all 10 years old when they were accused of attacking a nine-year-old girl.

The incident was alleged to have happened on Spring Hall Grove in the Highroad Well area of Halifax in March.

They were charged and appeared at Halifax Youth Court earlier this month when they were granted bail.

But the Crown Prosecution Service now says new evidence has come to light.

CPS spokeswoman Sally Sharp said: “After the decision to charge the boys – which was made following a review of the evidence available at the time – further information came to light which meant that proceeding with a prosecution was no longer in the public interest.

"Before the decision to discontinue the case was taken, it was considered by senior lawyers in CPS West Yorkshire in consultation with the police.’’
