HUNDREDS of commuters were left gridlocked after an early-morning smash in Fenay Bridge today.

A collision between a black Kia and a black Fiat Punto outside The Fenay Bridge pub left the road blocked for around an hour following the 6.50am smash.

Police set up diversions sending queues of motorists along Station Road and on to Wakefield Road to complete their journeys.

The male driver of the Kia, believed to be in his 40s, was left with pelvic injuries.

He was lifted from his car to the ambulance by fire crews from Huddersfield who attended the scene.

He and a number of other people involved in the crash were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
