THE condition of a teenage girl badly hurt in a road accident has improved slightly.

The 15-year-old suffered serious head injuries when a moped she was riding without a helmet hit a parked vehicle.

The machine hit a Range Rover on Edale Avenue, Newsome, near its junction with Berry View, just before 2pm on Wednesday, December 20.

Teachers from nearby Newsome High School rushed to help.

They held the girl in the position she had ended up in across the bonnet until paramedics arrived.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance flew her to Leeds General Infirmary.

Her condition has stabilised and she is no longer "critical".
