A FATHER and son were killed in an M62 horror crash as they drove to an airport to begin their summer holiday, police said.

And drivers from Huddersfield may have vital evidence for police probing the tragedy.

Gary Proctor, 47, and his son James, 16, from Wakefield, died in hospital after their Fiat Punto collided with an Audi Quattro on the M62 near Birch Services in Greater Manchester at about 6am yesterday.

A 44-year-old woman, who was also in the Punto, was injured but remains in a stable condition at hospital.

The driver of the Audi, a 31-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving with excess alcohol.

The collision happened on the westbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 19 and 20.

Greater Manchester Police say the family were on their way to Manchester Airport to start a holiday in America.

Witnesses should call GMP on 0161 872 5050.
