A 44-YEAR-OLD mother badly hurt in a road crash a month ago has died in hospital.

Mum-of-one Joanne Crewe had been left critically ill by a smash near Brighouse town centre.

Joanne was driving a Ford Focus which was in a crash with a Jaguar XJ8 on Bradford Road in Brighouse close to the Tesco store at 10am on Friday, September 29.

The other driver, well-known Brighouse businessman Douglas Blackhall, was also badly hurt.

Joanne was being cared for in a specialist unit at Leeds General Infirmary, but died early yesterday.

She was a sales executive at Wakefield family firm Clark's Brewery.

Her patch was the Huddersfield and Halifax areas and she had around 150 customers ranging from sports clubs through to pubs and restaurants.

The 300 staff at the company - the brewery trade's largest independent wholesaler - were devastated to hear of her death.

Sales director Glenn Brown said: "We all thought so very highly of Joanne. Everyone is very sad here about what has happened.

"She had been with us since August 2004.

"She was a very valued member of the team. She learned the business quickly, formed a very good relationship with our customers and then built on it. She will be greatly missed by all and our thoughts are with her son and family."

Joanne lived in Ossett with her 16-year-old son, Robert. She died at 4.25am yesterday at Leeds General Infirmary.

One of the clubs on Joanne's rounds was Brockholes Bowling Club.

Spokesman Norman Slater said: "She was a very bubbly character who always had a smile on her face and it is such a terrible tragedy.

"She had worked really hard and had built up the brewery's business in this area.

"There will be a lot of people who are very saddened by the news."

Joanne was driving a Ford Focus which was in a crash with Mr Blackhall's Jaguar XJ8 on Bradford Road in Brighouse close to the Tesco store at 10am on Friday, September 29.

Mr Blackhall, 71, founded Brighouse firm Blackhall Engineering in 1965.

The firm is based on Bradford Road and he was driving down that road from the direction of Bailiff Bridge when the crash happened near the Ritz Ballroom.

He suffered serious multiple injuries, including severe leg injuries.

He was a close friend of the late Calder Valley MP Sir Donald Thompson.
