A 44-YEAR-OLD mother badly hurt in a road crash is still critically ill in hospital.

The other driver badly hurt in the horror smash near Brighouse town centre is a well-known businessman.

Mother-of-two Joanne Crew, from Wakefield, suffered serious head injuries in the crash on Bradford Road, near the Tesco supermarket, just after 10am last Friday.

She is in a critical but stable condition in Leeds General Infirmary.

Her Ford Focus - which was flung against an electricity sub-station by the force of the impact - was in collision with a blue Jaguar XJ8 driven by company chairman Douglas Blackhall.

Mr Blackhall, 71, founded Brighouse firm Blackhall Engineering in 1965.

The firm is based on Bradford Road and He was driving down that road from the direction of Bailiff Bridge when the crash happened near the Ritz Ballroom.

He suffered serious multiple injuries, including severe leg injuries. He has been transferred from the Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax to Huddersfield Royal Infimary, where he is `comfortable'.

He is a vintage car enthusiast and has rebuilt a yellow 1928 Austin Chummy.

He was a close friend of the late Calder Valley MP Sir Donald Thompson.
