A DISABLED woman had a lucky escape when her car crashed on Castle Hill.

She was driving down the lane from the top of the hill late yesterday afternoon when the car skidded on ice and plunged off the road.

Luckily, it came to rest wedged between trees on the banking and the woman was able to call 999 on her mobile phone.

Watch Commander Andy Flynn, of Huddersfield fire brigade, said: “We used winch equipment to steady the car to stop it rolling and were able to help the woman out through the rear of the hatchback.

“She was very lucky, as it could have rolled down the hillside still further.”

The woman was left shaken and went to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for a check-up.
