A TERRIFIED woman was attacked by a crazed car-jacker.

The woman, in her late 30s, was about to get in her car outside Goodwins Newsagents on Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, at 5pm on Monday when an Afro- Caribbean man jumped her.

He forced her in to the driver's seat of the black VW Polo and told her to drive to an address in Bradley.

When they became held up in traffic on Colne Bridge Road the woman made a daring dash from the man, who was in the passenger's seat.

But he followed her and, in full view of waiting drivers, attacked her and dragged her back to the car.

She then drove to Bradley, where she managed to escape.

Both got out of the car, but the woman went back to it and drove off.

Police want to speak to anyone who saw the incident.

Detective Sergeant Derek Hey said: "This was a very nasty incident and must have been terrifying for the woman. After the attack she was in a lot of pain, but was still forced to drive this man to Bradley.

"It is very important that anyone who saw this attack on a busy road at rush hour gets in touch."

The attacker is described as Afro-Caribbean and in his early 20s.
