FIREFIGHTERS have tackled their second major moorland fire in the Scammonden area in a week. Crews from Slaithwaite, Huddersfield, Elland, Halifax and even Fairweather Green in Bradford tackled the large blaze near to Cupwith Reservoir off New Hey Road on Friday evening. They spent four hours dousing the flames which covered an area of half a square mile. The fire was spotted at 5.30pm. A big fire on moorland nearby on Wednesday night saw dozens of firefighters dousing the flames and beating the burning bracken out between 7pm and 2am the following morning.
