TWO drugs criminals have been ordered to pay back £200,000 compensation.

Christopher and Robert Squires, of Heckmondwike, were imprisoned in May 2011 for conspiring to produce cannabis. Leeds Crown Court has just issued confiscation orders, ordering the men to return their illegal assets.

The original convictions resulted from a police operation aimed at breaking organised crime in Kirklees.

Working alongside other officers, Kirklees Specialist Drugs Team raided properties in Powell Street, Heckmondwike, and Hanging Heaton. They found over 2,000 cannabis plants worth £350,000, £30,000 cash and £20,000 in premium bonds.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “As well as their significant sentences, the Squires will now also have to pay back the property that has been proven to have been gained through the pair’s criminal activities.

“We would like to remind anyone who knows someone living beyond their apparent means to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 anonymously”.
